“Where Can I Find Focus-Building Chess Lessons For Children?”

“As a chess coach for nearly two decades, I’ve fielded many concerns from parents just like you. Some are listed above, and there are many, many more.
I discovered a key gap in almost every afterschool chess program after spending a few years coaching with other companies. I learned first-hand that the brainy benefits of chess do NOT appear automatically for kids who play!
This is because most kids who “play chess” aren’t really playing chess.
What do I mean?
Most kids don’t have the opportunity to work directly with their chess coach in programs like these, with 10-20 students in a lesson at a time.
So they’re pushing the men around according to what they know, but
they haven’t been taught how to think in chess.
Nobody can help them with that in a large program. It requires specific attention.
And if you’re not thinking when you play, you aren’t increasing your brainpower any more than you would by watching Tik Tok.
And we all know we don’t want our kids growing up on Tik Tok!”

I only work with winners.
To some of you that may sound like a brash or sour remark, or maybe it made you laugh. Whatever you’re feeling, allow me to explain that statement.
After a successful 15-year run as a competitive player, I spent my first couple of years as a chess coach working with some companies who taught chess lessons after school.
I wasn’t happy working with those programs at all!
For a while, I couldn’t figure out why, but then one day while observing the students playing, it dawned on me.
The students made very little progress because none of them were playing to win!
They were pushing the men around on the board according to some patterns they had learned, but they weren’t actually planning any moves or calculating the consequences. The results of their games were wildly unpredictable.
They hadn’t been taught to think.
And it broke my heart…
And when the pain wore off and I was able to pick up the pieces of my shattered dreams, realizing that I could do it better, I started out on my own.
I did NOT say that I focus strictly on the results of the game.
If your child learns how to play to win…
That intent is enough to make them a winner - That’s the magic of chess that actually engages the brain!
Rob Soul here (you can call me Coach Rob)...
As a veteran kids chess coach, my mission is to demystify chess thinking for modern-day kids just like yours!
I started teaching my own lessons in public libraries and rec centers in the summer of 2013, and I’ve taught students one-on-one at their dining room tables as well.
Also, I once battled for (and won a share of) my class championship at the U.S. Open Chess Tournament, and I've competed in the National Open.
Which means that beyond simply teaching theory, I know what it takes to win at the board.
In fact, I’ve won bonus cash prizes during tournaments for scoring the largest upset - once by beating a player who was rated almost 400 points higher! (Giving me about a 9% win expectancy!)
But I’ve never been a full-time competitive player, on the scene in the professional chess world. What always mattered most to me, above any result, was how I played the game.
Was I fully present, actively engaging my brain, and was I building skills?
This isn’t about me (but you need and deserve to see proof so you know you’re in great hands because you’re trusting me with your kids).
This is about your child getting the brainy benefits from chess that you expect, because if I learned one thing early on that absolutely changed the way I teach chess to kids, it’s that those benefits are not automatic.
Many chess programs leave a lot of kids lost, confused, and unable to connect the dots.
The result?
Frustrated Kids.
Self-doubt kicks in because nobody ever showed them how to think…
What am I even trying to do here? Where should I move my pieces?? Am I wasting my time???
STOP! STOP! STOP!
I guarantee that I can help your chess student solve all of those problems once and for all.
They’ll play with confidence.
(I’m not playin’ … well, besides playing chess. With confidence.)
I know that what you want and need is to see the benefits of educational games like chess shine through in your child.
It’s what every parent wants!
No shame in that.
Now, if you had a guaranteed way to quickly vault your kid into the top 25% of all scholastic chess players, giving them everything they need to Compete, Create, Calculate, Castle, and Checkmate in every game from now ‘til forever…
